Deadwood posted a decline in gaming revenues for the tenth consecutive month in April. Deadwood casinos posted a win of $8.16 million in April, according to statistics released by the South Dakota Gaming Commission. That was down 1.5 percent from April 2016. Table games posted an increase of 0.2 percent over the previous year, while slots lost 2 percent.
Slot machine handle was down 2.6 percent last month. Table game handle was down 6.4 percent. Total handle declined 2.8 percent.
Year-to-date slot handle was down 6.2 percent as of the end of April. Table game handle declined 4.6 percent. Total year-to-date handle dropped 6.1 percent.
Craps and Roulette Not Meeting Expectations
Craps and roulette were added in July 2015 after the games were approved by South Dakota voters. Neither game has turned out to be a big winner for Deadwood casinos.

Deadwood casinos won $30,902 last month at craps tables. That was down 73 percent from the previous year. Roulette tables won $51,726. That was an increase of 28 percent.
Craps and roulette combined to generate just 8 percent of Deadwood’s table game win last month. It accounted for only 1 percent of Deadwood’s total gaming win.
Deadwood lost one craps in the past month. It was replaced by a roulette table. There are now three craps tables and eight roulette tables in the city.
The Deadwood gaming market is experiencing struggles due to both increased competition and economic factors in the region’s energy sector.
Hotel Occupancy Increased
There was a slight improvement in hotel occupancy in April, according to the Rapid City Journal. Deadwood occupancy was 41.3 percent. That was an improvement of three percent but still far below the 67.5 percent national hotel occupancy rate in April.
