In just a 24-hour time frame of taking over the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Eldorado Resorts Inc. decided to make a big change. The new operator has reportedly fired the in-house online casino staff due to the belief that the owner is not interested in online gaming or confident that the option is viable.
As first reported by Online Poker Report, it was made known by a source, that is not an employee of the venue, that the firing had taken place. It seems hard to believe that Eldorado Resorts would have fired the team so quickly, especially considering the fact that Tropicana manages to earn over $3 million each month.

It seems the main goal of Eldorado in the purchase of the Atlantic City venue was sports betting. Gary Carano, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the company, stated:
“Through this combination, we have significantly expanded the scale of our gaming operations, further diversified our geographic reach into new markets—some of which have already adopted sports wagering legislation—and minimized market-specific risk.”
Eldorado Resorts also recently acquired the Lady Luck Nemacolin, one of the many casinos in Pennsylvania. They have been one of only two companies to not seek an online gaming license in the state after acquiring the venue. It seems that Eldorado is not too concerned about online gaming via casino or poker means. However, they might still be considering going online with their sports betting operations.
What Will Happen With Tropicana?
Eldorado is assuming operational control of the Tropicana Atlantic City and will most likely make more changes to the venue. While it was a surprise that the company decided to let go the online casino staff, it is not surprising to find that Tropicana should be integrating changes that will be in line with the Eldorado brand.
We shall watch and see as the year comes to an end what Eldorado Resorts has in store for the Tropicana. Hopefully, there won’t be any more unfortunate surprises, or the brand may find that consumers are a little skeptical as to what they are going to provide as the new owner of Tropicana.
